Public Brewing School: Next Date is January 22nd…

Our Public Brewing School has been cheerfully chugging along with sessions roughly once a month. Our next session is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd at 10 a.m. and we have a few spots left. All PBS classes are held at our Capitol Hill location, in the tasting room above the roasterie and last about 2 hours.

Public Brewing School is our complimentary class that delves into the world of brewing better coffee at home. Set aside your automatic drip machine and learn about the joys and benefits of using superior brew methods like French Press, Chemex, Vacuum Pot, Bialetti, and Pour Over.

Andy, Ethiopia, and Traceability…Part Two…

Watching her roast the coffee right in the living room was immediately thrilling, but as soon as the green beans started to near the second crack and then make the journey late into it, my taste buds started screaming… I now understand why there is loads of sugar in many of the coffee shops of Addis.

Morning before the journey south: I awoke this morning to the sun just peaking over the hills of Addis, the prayers from the Orthadox Church next door echoing in the air, and the smoke of frankincense with another smell that was vaguely familiar wafting up through the corners of my door. In the days of no smoking in Seattle, one gets very confused when a wonderful smelling smoke is filling your room first thing in the morning. I followed the smoke down the stairs to our small living area and as soon I leaned into the room I quickly had to side step Marta, who was preparing a traditional coffee ceremony. I have heard of the traditional coffee ceremony in the states and now have seen it many times here in Addis, but at 6 a.m. in the morning!? You can imagine it put a huge smile on my face.

Public Brewing School: New Dates Set!

Dates for the fall and early winter for our wildly popular Public Brewing School (PBS) have been announced! PBS is a two-hour class taught by our trainer Andy Kent and is geared towards helping you create the best coffee you can while you are at home. Processes covered include pour over, french Press, vacuum pot, Bialetti, Chemex, and more. PBS is always on Saturday at 10am and always free. It is held at our Capitol Hill location, in our cupping room above the roasterie.

Successful Public Brewing School Last Weekend

CaffĂ© Vita’s Public Brewing School (PBS) has been a huge success since it launched last year. It’s no surprise our class last weekend was sold out. Everyone is always a bit weary coming in on a a Saturday morning, but as soon as our roaster and teacher for this session Jacob got the coffee flowing with a couple of French Press pots the class was as attentive as grad students in an exam review.
